This book is such a heavy drug, simply amazing and fascinating! There are no discussion topics on this book yet. I actually read Thomas Carlyle’s translation, downloaded from Googlebooks – which is missing a page and has other flaws.

Then we go about reading the influences. Veronica is a “good” character: Hoffmann’s letter indicates that he originally planned a shallow, joking story. That type of thing is by no means uncommon.

He appears to be completely separate—and separated—from that tradition, having nothing to draw influence from no fantasy, if it existedand not influencing anyone important unless they haven’t admitted to it. It’s not hard to come across books especially children’s books, though by no means limited to that genre that attempt to involve and implicate the reader e.t.w.hoffmann one way or another.

Hoffmann and Potocki were grouped under the former heading. Furthermore, all other elements—plot, consistency, plausibility, pacing, his audience—are subordinate to what amounts to the realization of his intensely personal fantasy.

Lists with This Book. My E.t.a.hlffmann Corner Window wasn’t too engaging, but it has a certain charm to it that is typical of Hoffmann’s writing. If this is real life, who wouldn’t be worried?!

The Archivarius himself has a vast garden, and friends that are birds creepy birds, too, that are no friend to Anselmus. Anselmus is kind of this clumsy dolt being tempted and swayed by opposing forces, and the reader knows that one is going to win out.

E.T.A. Hoffmann Part 1: “The Golden Pot” – Yet Another Bad Idea

The book was a pretty enjoyable read. In The Golden Potart and love spring from lives empty of color, beauty, and enthusiasm. The list of influences you turned up is intriguing, and gives me an idea for another reading contest albeit one which will require more preparation: This selection, while stressing the variety of his work, focuses on those stories in which the real and the supernatural are brought into contact and conflict.

Tamino, like Anselmus, must learn the differences between a wise, majestic mentor and a female personification of evil.

She’s hardly a gold-digger, though, and seems to be genuinely concerned with Anselmus’s well-being.
