The Count Ghasek storyline was a bit of a tough one. This is the beginning of dlenium new edding series and I am not as hooked as I was with the prior series of his. Not a ground-breaking fantasy, and definitely reminiscent of the Belgariad.

This kept the story light and I found myself laughing out loud quite literally at least a dozen times during the read of this book. There is a needless inclusion of some gruesome and graphic scenes elenum this book, too.

Not in any way. Enough, at least, that I’ll probably go on and re-read the next two volumes. The Elene religion, whatever it’s actually called, is practically a functional form of Catholic Christianity transposed into a fantasy realm. I suspect that eleium would actually be possible for a reader who’s familiar with the genre to pick up book two, start there, and be perfectly fine.
