TwinCAT CNC Axis Commissioning G97 Deselection of constant cutting speed , selection of spindle speed (modal, default) Using the G-functions G96, G97 and G, the interpretation of the S-word (or S-strings) can be optionally changed.

When a manual machinist is exposed to constant surface speed on a CNC turning center for the first time, the spindle will probably appear to be running much too fast most manual machinists cannot run at optimum spindle speeds for obvious safety reasons. Make 2 simple programs and go watch it run, soon as you see the 2nd program run you’ll have that “aha” moment I guarantee!
What are the benefits of constant surface speed?
Many continue using the seat-of-the-pants approach even on CNC turning centers when it is safe to run optimum spindle speeds. Check it out if you want.
Bookmarks Bookmarks Digg del. Since most machinists working g6 in rpm mode cmc to error on the side of caution commonly choosing an rpm that is much slower than it must becycle time will be longer than it should be. Watch the video to see how surface speeds are translated to cbc in RPM. Cycle time waster – While one of the benefits of constant surface speed is improved efficiency, it must be programmed wisely.
Subscribe to eMastercam News. I am in the process of buying another used lathe but want to keep using this one if it is possible to fix it. Use your display name or email address to sign in: I know what the G50 and and G97 are or dobut I’ve never been sure about what the G96 does.
Before a person can even begin to make the calculation, they must know the desired speed in sfm. No matter what, it’s So when you’re working in constant surface speed mode, cycle time is inversely proportional to spindle speed in rpm.
I was wondering if you could send me a list of the benefits between using G96 instead of G There are many converters online that you can use for this and I do recommend their use. This is a surface speed. These wheels varied in diameter from about 6 inches to a massive 2 foot one.
Login to Your Account. Guess we’re all different and learn things at different times. My hamster suffered with depression on account of being stuck in a cage all day and not having a girlfriend oh and he had a lot of credit card debts too.
Thanks JParis and Cathedral, we need more people like you guys. Already have an account? My next question is, how does it determine G97? The Optional Stop newsletter.
Having your spindle constant ramp up to max then down to 1, then up and down again isn’t really the best practice. In constant surface speed mode, the spindle speed in rpm is automatically determined by the CNC control based upon the diameter a tool is currently cutting and the speed specified in surface feet per minute or meters per minute in metric mode.
That’s why it’s such a random number like RPM. I have tried to explain the advantages as far as the increase of tool life as long as G96 is used properly but they continue to reject this mode. Sign In Sign Up. Or sign in with one of these services. I know what it does, and why.
Once it gets into position and G96 kicks on, you shouldn’t see any spindle speed fluctuation and it will go right into the cut at the appropriate speed.
In this case, many programmers will calculate the appropriate speed y96 rpm and run the machine in rpm mode. That helps, but it makes me realize that I should also have asked about the G It now meant that instead of having to turn a part at a fixed cnd and feed, the part could be programmed in G96 which was a constant surface speed.
But if you’re workholding device cannot grip with adequate force, of course, you cannot run at optimum speeds.
Basic Turning G96 G97 – CNC Programmer Training
Poor workholding setups – Since speed in rpm is difficult to determine when working in constant surface speed mode, it should only be used when making adequate setups. But if workpieces are at all out of round, the vibration set up by running too fast can be very dangerous.
G96 & G97 on lathe. – Industrial Forum –
G96 however means metres per minute. G50 sets the max speed, and that’s important because, as the cutting tool gets closer to X0, it theoretically has to spin up to a bajillion RPMS in order to keep the constant surface speed you program. When you use G96, it changes.
