The most enjoyable parts of this book for me was the character development, Westerfield gives them room to grow, and even westeffeld he introduced several new supporting characters he makes sure to give plenty of page space to the main characters so that you never lose sight of who the story is focused on, or what their goals sccott.

Naturally, nothing goes as planned for either party. They then stage a revolt, using a gold bar Alek has saved for funding. Scott Westerfeld got it very, very right in this smart, slickly crafted re-imagining of World War I. Feeling that it is his destiny to end the war, Alek hopes that a revolution in Istanbul will bring about peace.
Much like “Leviathan”, I raced through this. When his partner, Rod Near the last half of B, someone else enters the picture. Alek also tells Deryn that Lilit has a crush on her, which surprises Deryn, as she had thought that Aesterfeld liked Alek.
I do have to say that Dr. Malone photographs Deryn’s rescue of the walker. Behemoth is a whole pile of fun, has a heap of marvelous critters and machines, and has as a bonus plenty of fabulous black and white illustrations that Behemoth is the second book in Westerfeld’s WWI steampunk Clankers vs Darwinists alt-U romp. Are the daring adventures of X and Y a way for me to peel back the layers of complexity that life can be, could be, should be? Deryn was pretty cool in the first book, and sort of in this book, but she just annoyed the shit out of me when she was whining about Alek not being in love with her.
Alek and the Austrians aren’t feeling particularly welcome, though, and make plans to escape when they reach the city. I can’t decide if I’m happy or annoyed that Klopp survived the train crash.
